ย  ย  ย In my experience here at Prairie, I have gained a better understanding of what leadership is. Being a leader is not a light task, whether it be an IMPACT Leader, a Worship Leader for Chapel, etc. I have learned specifically from worship leading that leadership is guiding people into profound worship experiences that make it effortless to engage with Jesus and to create moments of closeness with Him. My goal as a leader on a worship team is not about pleasing myself, my team, or the congregation. Ultimately, it is about pleasing our Creator above anything else, Jesus Christ. Prairie has helped me with this view of leadership through the classes I have taken, the specific chapel messages delivered, and through mentorships with students, staff, and facility over the past 3+ years I have been here at Prairie. I am truly blessed by those who encourage me as a leader on this campus and I would not be where I am today without the support of friends and family, Prairie College, and my Heavenly Father.

ย  ย  ย One of the major skills that I have learned from my program that I feel will help me in life after college is confidence. When I first came to Prairie, especially as a Music and Worship Arts student, I began to look around at the skills and abilities of other students to see how good they were compared to myself. After realizing my identity in Christ, I began to realize that God had given me special abilities and gifts to further Hisย

kingdom that I did not know I had. With the support and encouragement from my faculty advisor and the other music students, I began working towards being confident in my ability to play and lead music. To this day, I can see how my confidence has grown and how God is using me in a new and special way.

ย  ย  ย Another major skill that I have learned from my program that I feel will help me in life after college is networking. Here at Prairie, especially in the Music and Worship Arts program, we have special guests, artists, and followers of Christ come in and teach workshops and sessions on certain topics relating to music. Guests including Steve Bell, Brian Doerksen, Brooke Nicholls and Steve Lensink, Chris Rademaker and Jodi King (Love and the Outcome), and many more. We also have had the opportunity to serve at the One Conference (previously called Breakforth) in Edmonton volunteering for the GMA Dove Awards meeting people and groups such as The Color, Worship Central, and others. To have connections and opportunities in the music industry whether you are a songwriter or a worship leader student, I have learned that networking is vital when it comes to advancing in the music industry.

ย  ย  ย During my time here at Prairie, I have realized in reading my Bible, learning more intentionally about who Jesus is and what He has done, that He is truly worthy of our praise. Psalm 103 has really helped me through my time here at Prairie regarding how worthy Jesus is of our praise. We have the opportunity to honor God praising him through music, scripture, intentional prayer, and so many more forms of worship. He has revealed that to me over the past 3+ years I have been at Prairie and I am excited to continually grow in the knowledge that Jesus Christ is worthy of all our praise.
