Starting HyFlex? Everything You Need to Know to Get Started

Welcome HyFlex Students!

Welcome to Prairie. We are happy that you are able to join us this year from wherever you are!

Here are a few introductory things to help you get started.

Please let us know if you have any questions that are not answered here; there is a contact list at the bottom of the page.

What is HyFlex?

While nothing can replace face-to-face study, HyFlex is a more personable option than traditional at-your-own-pace study that will allow real-time access to your classmates and professors in a blended classroom environment.

You’ll attend classes on a schedule. Ask questions and get immediate answers from your professors. You will participate in classroom group work. (Not to mention be at the leading edge of a new era of learning!)

We hope this will help you stay more engaged in your coursework and feel more connected to your Prairie community.

Thank you for beginning this adventure with us!

Instructions to Join Your Classes

You will be joining all your classes remotely in Brightspace via Zoom.

Hopefully by now you have received information on how to log in to Brightspace (if not please let us know).

Brightspace will be your classroom where you will find all your class materials, submit assignments and join the Zoom meetings for your classes.

Finding Your Virtual Class

To find the link for your Zoom meeting, first go to the appropriate class and click on Zoom in the navigation bar (see screenshot below).

This will bring you to a page with all the scheduled meetings for that course.  Click to join the class you want.

You will be asked to register for attendance. (Note: After you have registered, click the recaptcha box. You will have to click join meeting again, and you may have to scroll down to see that button.)

Accessing Brightspace on your phone?

If you are accessing Brightspace on your phone it will look a bit different.  To access the Content in a course you will need to click on the 3 little bars in the top left corner.

You will see the Content link there once you click on it you will see all the module listed in a row.  To see the content inside click on the module you want to access then you will need to scroll down to see it all.

Participating in Student Life

Prairie is known for its rich, authentic and rare community life, developed through conscious and intentional activities and structure.

We hope as a HyFlex student you will get a taste of that experience.

Your Directors of Student Development

Your Directors of Student Development are a central part of community life at Prairie. At Prairie College, each student is assigned a Director of Student Development (DSD) for support throughout the year.

These individuals focus on student discipleship and oversee Impact Groups, dorms and student life.  Think of them as a friend that you haven’t met yet.

Gillian, Michael, and Dan are easily reached in times of emergency and are available to support you throughout your college journey.

What is an Impact Group?

You have been placed in an Impact Group. Even though you can’t be here on campus with us it is our hope that you would still be connected to a small group here.

Impact groups are important to our mission to make disciples. It is our goal that in this intentional time of meeting and being in community with one another you will be formed more and more into the likeness of Jesus.

Your impact leader will contact you and introduce themselves, along with the specific details for your group.

The Chapel Experience

Our primary services are Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Each chapel has its own characteristics and goal.

You will be able to join with our on campus students in an online experience. We desire to be intentional in our chapels to help you grow closer to Christ.
