Kyla Rodych

PN Instructor

  • BSc University of Calgary
  • BScN University of Alberta (Camrose site)

Kyla grew up in Calgary. She attended U of C for a Biological Sciences degree straight out of high school. Kyla worked at the Southern Alberta Tissue Program at Foothills Hospital during university and following her graduation in 2006. While working there, she was exposed to various nursing roles and decided to pursue her Bachelor of Nursing degree. She got a job as a unit clerk while awaiting acceptance into a program, where she met and started dating her husband. She was accepted to the U of A, After Degree Nursing program in Camrose, AB in fall 2007 and graduated in 2009. She then moved to Edmonton to join her husband while he attended U of A, Faculty of Medicine.

Kyla’s first nursing job was on a general medicine unit. After a year of gaining general skills, she accepted a job at the U of A hospital in the General Systems Intensive Care Unit, where she worked for 2 more years. When her husband was accepted into the Red Deer Family Medicine Residency program, they relocated to Red Deer in 2012. Kyla worked on the Intensive Care Unit there for a year before transitioning to a Community Health position. Once her husband finished his residency, they began searching Alberta for a smaller community to settle down in and start a family. While they both grew up in the city, they knew they wanted to settle down in a rural town.

They came across Olds in 2014. After a trial period, they decided to make Olds their home. Kyla continued to work in Community Health during this time. They had 2 children, a girl and a boy. In 2018 an amazing opportunity to teach with BVC was brought forward by a colleague. Kyla started teaching on a casual basis, but instantly fell in love with teaching the PN program at Prairie College. Not only does it feed her passion of nursing, but has aided her spiritual growth. She accepted a half-time position with BVC to teach with the Prairie Program in August 2019.
