Jan Cinnamon

PN Instructor

  • BScN- University of Alberta and Red Deer College

Jan grew up west of Three Hills with her parents and 3 brothers.  After graduating high school she went right into nursing at Red Deer College and graduated with her degree in 1998.  She moved to the big city of Calgary and worked Neurology and stepdown CCU at the Foothills Hospital and Respiratory at the Rockyview Hospital.  Two years later Jan met her husband Ken, who was a Paramedic Firefighter in Red Deer, packed up shop and moved. She worked 7 years at Red Deer Regional Hospital in ICU and ER.  Both their children were born during this time (a boy and a girl) and having both grown up in small towns they decided to move to Three Hills to raise their family.

Jan has worked as a rural nurse in ER, OR, LDR, and Acute Care at the Three Hills hospital since 2006.  Almost two years ago Jan was questioning her passion for nursing and took a temporary position at the Foothills Hospital in Emergency.  This rekindled her passion but she found it very hard to commute and be there for her family. Jan feels God looked after her when he brought a Bow Valley College instructor into Jan’s life through an orientation with the Simulator Anne Doll purchased by Prairie.  Jan had been teaching casually with the Primary Care Paramedic program when she was called to see if she would be interested in teaching the Practical Nurse program casually. Her teaching career at Prairie with Bow Valley College started in March of 2019 and she is currently a Full time Instructor here.
