PRAIRIE FLIGHT CAMP
Due to low registration numbers, Flight Camp 2019 has been cancelled.
Attention teens aged 14 to 18!
Prairie graduates serve in the aviation industry here in Canada and with mission organizations around the world. The PATC flight program exists to prepare pilots for the challenges they will face whether flying for an airline or serving a remote mission base in a foreign country. Our Christian emphasis in training challenges students to consider their beliefs and apply them to their career and everyday life.
The summer flight camp offered to youth (ages 14-18) is a unique opportunity to get a glimpse into the aviation world before committing to it as a career. Campers will learn some of the basics of flying, understand what’s involved in getting professional licenses and hear about some of the opportunities that currently exist for pilots.
You will be hosted in the dorms by our senior aviation students at Prairie College’s main campus. After breakfast each day you will be transported by bus to Prairie Aviation Training Centre located only 10 minutes from campus at the Three Hills airport. There you will take part in a variety of activities including:
- flight briefings (theory of flight, basic maneuvers, climbs & descents, navigation and more)
- motion-simulator sessions
- airplane flights (including an aerobatic intro if desired)
- devotional time with staff
- introduction to aircraft systems and controls
Evenings will be spent back on campus around the campfire, at the local swimming pool or on outings in the area. Please come prepared with clothing for these activities.
Our goal is to provide campers with at least one flight per day where they are at the controls of the airplane. In addition they will be able to sit in the back seat and observe their fellow camper’s lesson or just enjoy the scenery. Please note that flying in small airplanes is dependant on weather; if flights are cancelled on a given day due to weather we will attempt to make them up another day during the camp. Campers will not be pressured to join flights if they are feeling unwell or uneasy, as this is meant to be an enjoyable time for all.
