Accreditation: What is it and why is it important?

What is the Association for Biblical Higher Education?

The Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE), a nationally recognized accrediting agency, is committed to ensuring post-secondary education is legitimate, rigorous, challenging, and leading students in the formation of a biblically grounded Christian worldview.

Their six core values are: spiritual engagement, uncompromising integrity, stakeholder value, professional excellence, innovation bias, and team synergy. ABHE was established in 1947 and has maintained these six core values ever since.

What Does it Mean to be Accredited?

Through its accrediting agency, a Prairie education is recognized by the Province of Alberta and the US Department of Education. Our education is vetted for quality and integrity every ten years. Prairie alumni are able to continue their education at seminaries and other institutions of higher education. Graduates have been accepted at
such schools as Regent College, Tyndale Seminary, University of Toronto, University of Nottingham, Yale Divinity School, University of Chicago, Providence Seminary, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Trinity International University). As in any educational context, the extent of transferable credit depends on factors such as grades achieved as well as the particular course of studies being pursued.

Hosted by Prairie: Virtual Comprehensive Accreditation Visit by ABHE

Prairie College will be hosting a virtual, comprehensive accreditation visit by a team of evaluators from the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) from March 29-April 2 to determine its compliance with the standards for accreditation.

During the virtual visit, representatives of the ABHE team will entertain comments from the public. Any members of the public interested in making a virtual presentation regarding the College to the team should contact the College at the following telephone number (403-443-5511 ext. 431) or email address (kevin.peters@prairie.edu) to determine a meeting time.

Persons wishing to submit third party comments related to the institution may send them to Director, Commission on Accreditation, 5850 T. G. Lee Blvd., Suite 130, Orlando, FL, 32822.

Persons interested in reviewing the standards for accreditation will find them on the ABHE website at www.abhe.org. They appear under “about accreditation.” The institution is subject to the Institutional Accreditation Standards.

We are excited about this opportunity to continue working with ABHE. We appreciate the rigor of accreditation and ABHE’s mission to enhance the quality and credibility of postsecondary educational institutions that distinctively engage students in biblical, transformational, experiential, and missional higher education.
