Encounter: In Depth

This foundational year of Bible is designed to immerse students in the Bible by integrating excellent classroom instruction with experiential application and spiritual reflection. Faculty will walk with you as you come to know Scripture in new and exciting ways, giving you the confidence to know what it says and view the world in light of it.

Through classes, experiences and Impact Groups, (small communities of discipleship) your faith will be strengthened for whatever is next. If you decide to continue at Prairie, this first year will transfer into most of Prairie's two and four-year degree programs.

Program Outcomes

  1. Learn what it means to demonstrate the character and love of Christ to those around you.
  2. Grow in love for Christ's church, taking up His ministry of reconciliation to the world.

Carmen Imes  Program Coordinator

For nearly 100 years, Prairie has been known for its focus on the Bible. Today Prairie offers more Bible courses in its core than almost any other college. Students have the opportunity for rigorous engagement with the entire Bible, paired with electives on a variety of related subjects.

If you are unsure about where God is calling you to invest your life, the Encounter program is a wonderful place to start. In just a year's time you'll encounter God through the Scriptures and gain a better sense for where you belong in his kingdom. If you sense a calling to academic ministry, Bible translation, or Bible teaching in the church, you may stick around for the 4-year degree. If not, you can jump into any of our other programs after your Encounter year. At Prairie we prepare you for a lifetime of study and a lifetime of service. We're eager to encounter the God of the Scriptures with you. Come join us!

I really enjoyed the world religions course I got to take, even though it was an option class. I liked what I learned about people and the field trips to different places of worship.

Open up, make friends. Your professors are your best resource and want to be your friend. Take advantage of the different things offered at Prairie: student success, committees, and extra curricular activities.

I would definitely recommend Prairie to a friend, but with the warning that it is quite academically focused. I've grown and learned so much. I think that it would be good for every Christian to spend a year or two in Bible school in order to really establish themselves in their faith.

I really only have one goal as a student: to grow deeper with God; to learn about Him and study His Word, but then to take this knowledge further and apply it not only to my life but also to use that knowledge to encourage those around me as well.

I look back on my time at Prairie and think: "If only I went there now; the campus is so alive these days." Then I remember that my Prairie experience, like anything in our faith life, really is as good as you allow it to be. For me, it was a safe haven in uncertain times, a source of refinement and my best friend forever factory. It was the place where Jesus met me often through the professors, my coaches, and the people within the town of Three Hills itself. I love where Prairie has come, and where it is going. As a mother, I am confident that anyone who attends is being well equipped to impact my son's world with the love of Jesus!
