Hardware & Software Requirements

Students must have a new, or up to 2 year old MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro with at least 8GB of ram, a 1TB (minimum) external portable hard drive, a "student" subscription of the full version of Adobe Creative Cloud, Wacom Intuos Tablet or better, and a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera body with HD 1080p video capabilities. We recommend a full frame Canon* body with a Canon EF 24-105mm f4L IS lens for starters. Prairie Bible Institute qualifies for educational pricing with both Apple and Adobe, and both companies have time-sensitive pricing.

*Canon, because the school has a number of Canon accessories (worth thousands of dollars) digital media students can borrow and experiment with. It's simply too costly to stock accessories for multiple brands.

Ron Nickel  Program Coordinator

What I love about teaching at Prairie are those “Aha” moments. It’s where the confusion goes away and the light bulb goes on in students' eyes. I have been a photographer for over 30 years and made my living that way. For students to latch on to a career that they feel passionate about is what I hope for every student that comes through our program.

Quite simply, I owe almost everything I know about professional photography to Ron. Not only was he my instructor throughout college, but also a mentor. From working as his personal assistant on photo-shoots, to sitting in class listening to him passionately teach invaluable information, I highly respect him and the imagery he produces. Ron’s impressive client list directly reflects how his photography has impacted societies around the globe and initiated genuine change for the better.
