Camp Ministry: In Depth

Match your interests and gifts to the major that best suits you through Prairie's Bachelor of Arts in Ministry (BAM) designed to build your confidence to minister in any environment; providing you with an in-depth knowledge of the Bible and practical leadership skills to do ministy while equipping others for ministry.

The BAM Camp Ministry program combines experiential and classroom instruction. Much of the program is in an actual camp setting allowing students to learn leadership, administration, discipling, Bible teaching, and other skills within a reality experience. Students learn to use the camp as a tool for ministry (both technical/hard skills and soft/relational/interpersonal/communication/ leadership/ group skills necessary to lead others)

Strong emphasis is placed on developing a philosophy of Christian camp ministry so you can run your own camp.

The third or fourth year is spent at Camp Forest Springs (Wisconsin, USA), allowing students to gain extended hands-on experience in camp ministry while earning academic credit to fulfill program requirements.

The Camp Ministry Program is:

  • For people who would like to prepare for traditional camping ministry in a vocational ministry or a vocational context.
  • For those who would like to work in camping in a secular setting with a Christian theological perspective.

Camp Ministry has, and continues to be, such an important ministry in the lives of children, youth and families. Camp is an unique tool in that it allows people to retreat from their everyday lives to hear and experience the love of God. If camp ministry is your calling then we would love to help prepare and guide you on your journey.

An intense immersion into Christian camping. LTD is, from what I’ve seen at others camps, at the top as far as immersion into Christian camping. For someone who had little experience with camps before, LTD was an overall amazing learning experience.

I look back on my time at Prairie and think: "If only I went there now; the campus is so alive these days." Then I remember that my Prairie experience, like anything in our faith life, really is as good as you allow it to be. For me, it was a safe haven in uncertain times, a source of refinement and my best friend forever factory. It was the place where Jesus met me often through the professors, my coaches, and the people within the town of Three Hills itself. I love where Prairie has come, and where it is going. As a mother, I am confident that anyone who attends is being well equipped to impact my son's world with the love of Jesus!
